Water Research Forum

The Water Research Forum (WRF), launched by UKWIR, aims to bridge the gap between academia and industry. By fostering collaboration, the WRF seeks to address long-term water challenges like climate change and water scarcity.

Why is the WRF important?
  • Independent research: The WRF promotes unbiased research, providing valuable insights to the water industry.
  • Knowledge transfer: It facilitates knowledge sharing between academics and industry professionals, fostering innovation and problem-solving.
  • Strategic partnerships: The WRF connects key stakeholders, creating opportunities for collaborative research projects
  • Future-proofing the water sector: By addressing challenges like climate change and water scarcity, the WRF helps ensure a sustainable water future.
  • Public perception: the WRF promotes a more informed and nuanced understanding of water issues.

To do this, SECAG will need to consider the existing and emerging science relating to substances of emerging concern and assess whether the water industry has a role to play in advancing the knowledge of their source, fate, behaviour or environmental impact and mitigation of any impact.

The WRF is dedicated to supporting the UK water sector by aligning research efforts with UKWIR’s Research Strategy, the 2050 Water Innovation Strategy and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); securing funding for innovative research, fostering collaborations between academia and industry, and promoting the adoption of new technologies and practices.

By working together, the WRF and its members can shape the future of the water industry and deliver a sustainable water supply for generations to come.
