Mark Jones joined UKWIR in November as Strategic Programme Manager. Previously he had been working at Atkins Global as a Principal Consultant in Strategic Research. Having started at Rolls Royce he worked for 25 years at Severn Trent Water. There he had roles in capital programme delivery, strategy and investment planning, and was involved in strategic business plan submissions.

He has spent the last eight years as their Wastewater R&D Manager where he cultivated a great network of key R&D people within the industry, as well as good links with many of the UK universities. Amongst other key roles, Mark is a Visiting Professor for Cranfield University and chairs the National Wastewater Technical Network Group for Cranfield University.

Mark was attracted by UKWIR’s emphasis on strategic research that deals with the key issues facing the industry in the longer term. He sees his role as; ‘assisting Programme Leads to bring further pace and focus to UKWIR’s Strategic Programme, at what is a very busy Business Plan submission time. This means fostering current, and developing future, relationships with external organisations whilst  at the same time attracting external project funding. One of my goals is to ensure that all strategic and research focused ''water people'' are aware of the UKWIR Strategic Programme, on how they can contribute and engage with it, and what industry and societal value it will bring in future'.
