Reducing leakage for a resilient water future: A whole life approach to responsible consumption

The challenge

Adjusting for climate resilience is mandatory to ensure a safe future for us all. But how do we, as an industry, effectively ensure communities across the UK & Ireland understand the urgency of this challenge? From communicating the complexities surrounding drought and flood management to sharing exciting innovations in water governance and climate adaptation, UKWIR decided to take part in The Ripple Effect: Inspiring a Resilient Environment – a cross-sector sustainability film series underscoring the urgency of collaboration to ensure a thriving, biodiverse planet for the next generations.

Contributing to water industry education and accessibility

Following the launch of CIWEM’s ‘Adapting for Tomorrow’s Environment’ online programme in 2020, CIWEM partnered with Content With Purpose (CWP) to showcase the guardians of our environment and the solutions unlocking a more resilient, thriving future for all life on Earth. We are proud to have contributed a documentary CIWEM’s second series, The Ripple Effect, sharing the positive impacts of ground-breaking leakage research and innovations with a wider audience.

Through a combination of inspiring, future-focused content, including interviews and short films, The Ripple Effect champions the expertise and innovation needed to not only tackle the environmental challenges we face but secure a cleaner, more biodiverse planet. Our changing climate and a rise in extreme weather events will amplify the urgent need to collaborate at all levels of society to elevate adaptation and resilience and ensure a flourishing world for future generations. Sharing valuable insights through short-form video - an engaging and accessible medium – is a powerful tool for sharing pressing messages of concern to us all.

Advancing positive change in the water sector

A sustainable water industry requires innovative collaboration, and UKWIR leads the way. For our contribution to the wider series, we focused on the role of our research in transforming network intelligence, and particularly the importance of research and innovation in driving down leakage.

The documentary features SES Water's Jeremy Heath, UKWIR's Programme Lead for leakage, who shares why the industry's collective mission to significantly cut leakage is a vital step towards achieving future water security across the UK & Ireland. This project aligns with our fifth Research Theme: a whole life approach to responsible consumption.
