Good Progress on project Asbestos Cement Water Mains Deterioration and Failure Prediction Models

UKWIR is progressing on its project “ASBESTOS CEMENT WATER MAINS DETERIORATION AND FAILURE PREDICTION MODELS”.

The objective of this project is to carry out a nationwide review of the AC mains that are installed in a number of different environments.

This will support STAGE 1 - Development of Deterioration and Failure Prediction Models from the WSAA project. By carrying out this review across the UK, Australia and the USA the understanding of the rate of deterioration to differing environments will be greatly enhanced.

As the WSAA project does not focus on joints, it's expected that the UK project will focus as much on joints as it will on the pipe.

If possible, it would be good to support STAGE 3 - Verify Pipe Deterioration and Failure Prediction Models from the WSAA project, though this will require the capture of site samples of AC water main and the testing of the samples to measure the rate of deterioration.”
