The National Chemical Investigations Programme Phase 3, 2020-2022
The third phase of the National Chemical Investigations Programme (CIP3) investigated a much wider range of elements than CIP1 and CIP2, including:
- sources of chemicals,
- environmental die away and trend analysis,
- emerging and watch list substances,
- microplastics and anti-microbial resistance (AMR),
... as well as developing an understanding of chemicals inputs to biosolids, groundwater and transitional and coastal waters. It has provided an insight into river and sewer catchment sources as well as alternative pathway control measures.
The raw data on this portal provided by the individual water companies may appear different to data presented within the published reports approved by the Project Steering Group. This is a consequence of the data processing that has been undertaken by Atkins, as documented in the reports. The data processing included data cleaning, transformation and data analysis (e.g. outlier removal) to prepare summary statistics. These summary statistics are provided in the appendices for each report to assist the reader with the interpretation of the data. All the raw data are provided in the portal for users to undertake their own data processing to make informed decisions but with an understanding of the associated limitations and assumptions that may differentiate outcomes to those presented in the reports.
