Development and deployment of a multivariate decision support tool for the CIP catchment studies programme
The Decision Support Tool (DST) is a stand-alone piece of software developed as part of the Chemical Investigations Programme to provide the Water Industry with an understanding of the measures that are required to ensure simultaneous compliance for multiple chemicals of concern. Addressing multiple chemicals is challenging because different chemicals are affected differently by different kinds of treatment technologies. The high cost of many of the treatment options that might be considered, however, makes it important to deploy investment efficiently. The DST therefore facilitates efficient decision making and cost-effective investment solutions. The DST uses outputs from the SAGIS-SIMCAT system as inputs, and aligns with the processes and procedures developed around SAGIS-SIMCAT, the UK Regulatory Agencies primary catchment water quality planning and permitting tool. The DST provides the Water Industry with a cutting-edge ‘big data’ analytical capability that supports initiatives aimed at managing chemicals in the environment.
